COMPARE THE WORK BEFORE COMPARING THE PRICE
A Tax Return Is Not One Fixed Job
An individual return with wage statements and complete records may take less work than a return with a business, rental property, K-1s, or several states. A Schedule C business generally belongs on the owner’s Form 1040; an S corporation or partnership generally files a separate entity return. The filing structure and records determine the work more than the label on the business.
Monthly bookkeeping has its own scope and starting price. Tax preparation, historical catch-up, payroll, state returns, and work for additional owners should be identified separately unless the proposal explicitly combines them.
What Can Change the Fee
- The number of taxpayers, entities, owner returns, schedules, accounts, and filing jurisdictions.
- The condition and completeness of bookkeeping and supporting records.
- Transaction volume, ownership changes, fixed assets, payroll, contractor reporting, or unusual activity.
- Prior-year, amended, late, cleanup, notice, or deadline-sensitive work.
- The level and timing of meetings, projections, reporting, or ongoing support requested.

★★★★★5 out of 5 stars
“Found Jessica online, and so glad I did. She’s really supported my small business, even helping me transition from an LLC to an S-Corp. She’s always communicative and professional, and gives so much more of a personable experience than large firms. She has vast knowledge and even worked for the IRS. She knows her stuff. Highly recommend.”

“My taxes were a bit of mess when I found Jessica. Since working with her, I’ve felt so confident about how everything is structured now. I have an LLC S-corp so it’s not a easy task to get it straightened out but she managed it with ease. I can’t recommend her enough!”

“I highly recommend Jessica if you’re looking for a CPA. I went into the process with zero knowledge about taxes, and she made everything feel manageable. She’s incredibly helpful, patient, and knowledgeable, and you can tell she genuinely cares about doing things the right way for her clients. She really takes pride in her work and makes sure you’re set up in the best way possible.”

Questions to Ask Before Hiring a CPA
Know What the Quote Covers
- Which taxpayers, entities, tax years, federal and state returns, and schedules are included?
- For the entity package, which one or two owner Form 1040 returns, K-1s, report, and strategy meeting are included?
- Who will reconcile or clean up records, handle payroll filings, and prepare any amended or late returns?
- Are tax projections, estimated-payment calculations, notice responses, and follow-up meetings included or separately quoted?
- Which records and decisions must I provide, and when will the returns or reports be ready for review?
When the Fee May Be Worth It
A CPA can help define the required filings, review records and elections, and connect a business return to owner reporting. The benefit depends on your facts and the agreed scope; hiring a CPA does not guarantee tax savings, an IRS result, or a particular filing date.
CPA Cost Questions
Do You Publish a Price for an Individual Return?
Yes. Individual returns start at $500, and returns with a Schedule C start at $1,200, including your 1040. Rentals, investment sales, extra states, or incomplete records can raise the fixed fee, which you receive before work begins.
Are Owner Returns Included in the $3,000 Entity Package?
Yes. It includes one or two identified owners’ complete federal Form 1040 returns, the covered entity return, and applicable K-1s. The $3,000 starting fee assumes reconciled entity books and otherwise routine, documented owner returns. Rentals, other businesses, multiple states, complex investments, or missing records can raise the fixed quote. The proposal names every included owner and return before work begins.
Is Monthly Bookkeeping Included in Tax Preparation?
No. Monthly bookkeeping starts at $500 per month and is a separate service unless the written proposal expressly includes it with tax preparation. Historical catch-up work is evaluated separately.
Does a Fit Call Commit Me to Paying a Fee?
No. The 15-minute fit call is complimentary. Work begins only after the firm accepts the engagement and the written scope and fee are agreed.
Is There a Contract for Monthly Bookkeeping?
No. Bookkeeping is month to month, and you can cancel at any time by email. The month you cancel in is billed in full, and your QuickBooks Online file stays yours.
How Much Does an Amended Return Cost?
An amended return is priced the same as preparing that return, no matter who prepared the original.
